Dreams in an Egyptian prison

In Egypt Joseph is a slave who does his work so well he is put in charge of the household. His master's wife tries to take him to bed; he refuses, she accuses him, and doing the right thing lands him in prison. The narrator keeps repeating one line through the slavery and the jail: the LORD was with Joseph. It is not a promise of comfort — his circumstances get worse, not better. In prison he interprets two dreams correctly and asks the one man who is released to remember him. The man forgets him for two full years. Then Pharaoh dreams of cattle and grain, nobody can explain it, the cupbearer finally remembers, and the prisoner is shaved, dressed and brought up out of the dungeon to stand before the most powerful man in the world — and to save that world from famine.
