The light on the Damascus road

Saul is on his way to Damascus with warrants to arrest Christians when a light knocks him to the ground and a voice says: Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? He asks who is speaking, and the answer redefines everything — I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Not my followers. Me. He is blinded, led by the hand into the city, and sits for three days without eating. Then God sends Ananias, a local believer, to go and lay hands on him. Ananias objects, reasonably: Lord, I have heard how much evil this man has done. He goes anyway, and the first word he says to the man who came to arrest him is brother. Saul becomes Paul, and the church's fiercest enemy writes a third of the New Testament.
