Twelve men, two reports

Twelve scouts go into the promised land and come back with the same facts: the land is extraordinary, and the cities are fortified and the people are big. Ten of them draw one conclusion — we are not able. Two, Joshua and Caleb, draw the opposite — the LORD is with us, do not fear them. The camp believes the ten, weeps all night, and talks about choosing a leader to take them back to Egypt. That is the moment the generation is turned back into the desert for forty years, one year for each day the scouts were gone. What kept Israel out of the land was not the giants. It was a refusal to believe that the God who split a sea could handle a walled city.
